Year 1.

  Foundations to the Middle Ages
(September 2007 through May 2008)

 

 

The first year dealt with the foundations of Christian Mysticism through the Middle Ages.  The topics included an introduction to Christian Mysticism,  The Foundations of Mysticism in the Jewish Scriptures,  Mysticism in the New Testament: John & Paul,  The Desert Mothers and Fathers ,  Origen and Clement of Alexandria,  Augustine of Hippo,  Byzantine Spirituality, Benedict, and Celtic Spirituality: Bridget, Columba, and Patrick.

     

Year 2.

  The Classical Period of Christian Mysticism
(September 2008 through May 2009)

 

  The second year focused on the mystics of the Middle Ages through early modern times. The topics included Franciscan Spirituality; Pseudo-Dionysius and Eastern Mysticism; Meister Eck-hart and the German and Ryland Mystics; Julian of Norwich and the Cloud of Unknowing; Ignatian Spirituality; Dominican Spirituality; the French Mystics including Frances de Sales and Jane de Chantal; John of the Cross; and Teresa of Avila.
